Bank Muamalat Launches ATLAS, Malaysia’s First Islamic Digital-Only Bank

5 June 2025, Kuala Lumpur — Bank Muamalat has launched ATLAS, Malaysia’s first Islamic digital-only bank, designed to align with both faith and modern lifestyle needs. Developed in partnership with global fintech leader Backbase, ATLAS leverages an AI-powered banking platform to offer seamless onboarding, Shariah-compliant financing, DuitNow integration, and personalized digital services.

ATLAS aims to redefine Islamic banking in the digital age. “It is more than a digital bank — it’s built around our customers’ values, aspirations, and lifestyles,” said Khairul Kamarudin, CEO of Bank Muamalat. The bank's shift to a fully digital, purpose-driven model is part of a broader strategy to lead the next era of Islamic finance.

Upcoming features include digital debit and credit cards, flexible personal financing, and a Shariah-compliant gold investment account. A unique rewards program will also offer lifestyle perks through curated brand partnerships. Since its pilot, ATLAS has shown strong results in product rollout and customer acquisition.

Powered by Backbase’s modular banking platform, ATLAS overcomes legacy infrastructure challenges and scales innovation with agility. Backbase supports over 150 banks globally, including leaders in Islamic finance and Asia-Pacific digital banking.
